What is A2M (Alpha-2-Macroglobulin)?
Alpha-2-Macroglobulin (A2M) is found the blood and is the major non-nonimmunoglobulin protein found in plasma protein. A2M is a broad spectrum multi-purpose portease inhibitor that can inactivate a variety of proteinases that can degrade cartilage cells or chondrocytes, which causes Osteoarthritis (OA). By inhibiting portease Alpha-2Macroglobulin (A2M) can stop the progression of osteoarthritis by preventing cartilage from breakdown and preventing cartilage loss, which improves joint function, decrease pain and improve joint function.
How does A2M work?
Alpha-2Macroglobulin (A2M) works by inhibiting 3 specific protein classes: Cytokines, Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMP’s) and ADAMTS (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin) which degrade cartilage over time. Alpha-2Macroglobulin (A2M) injections can inhibit the progression of Osteoarthritis (OA) by protecting cartilage from catabolic and inflammation. This allows joints to be protected from Osteoarthritis (OA) by preventing cartilage breakdown, promoting tissue growth, and supporting cartilage restoration of the affected joint.
A2M Therapy – One Treatment for Pain and OA
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common health problem that can cause knee pain, back pain, Post Traumatic OA, or other joint conditions. Temporary relief from the pain caused by osteoarthritis (OA) can generally be achieved with non-surgical treatment options, but relief is only temporary and the side effects and root cause of osteoarthritis remains.
For the long term relief of osteoarthritis (OA) symptoms a highly concentrated injection of Alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) can impact the progression of the disease and reverse it. Alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) binds to the chemicals produced in the joints that degrade cartilage over time and neutralizes their degenerative effect. Alpah-2-macroglobulin (A2M) can:
- Stop the breakdown of cartilage and prevent cartilage loss
- Halt the progression of osteoarthritis
- Reduce the pain caused by osteoarthritis
- Improve joint function
- Promotes tissue growth
- Support the restoration of affected joint(s)
Meet Our Neurologists
At Neurological Associates of West Los Angeles our neurologists specialize in the treatment and diagnosis of many conditions where Alpah-2-macroglobulin (A2M) may be used to treat Osteoarthritis (OA). Dr. Jordan, Dr. Chang, Dr. Franc, Dr. O’Connor and Dr. Shimizu all diagnose and treat patients with Osteoarthritis (OA) or conditions related to it that may best be treated with Alpah-2-macroglobulin (A2M) injections. If you have have Osteoarthritis (OA) and want to find out more about using Alpah-2-macroglobulin (A2M) to treat it contact one of our neurologists to schedule an appointment at 310-829-5968.
